Getting there:
There are ferrys and taxis that run out of San Gorge, Granada, and San Carlos. Ferries depart from San Gorge daily, with prices ranging from $20-$40 US dollars. Each boat ride takes roughly an hour. On Mondays and Thursdays ferries depart from Granada for about $2, but this ride can take up to 6 hours. On Tuesdays and Fridays a ferry leaves San Carlos for roughly $2.50; however, this ride is 12 hours long. The last shuttle leaves at 5:30 PM, so make sure not to miss it!
Once on island
We encourage hiking in Ometepe as there are two volcanoes on the island: Volcano Concepcion and Volcano Maderas. The Sun Kite School is another great attraction. Try kiteboarding in the beautiful waters which will give you an amazing view of the island!
Staying Safe
Although we encourage hiking, we also recommend that you exercise caution. The hiking trails are very dangerous and there are no emergency services on the island, so do not risk hiking alone. Hiking guides tend to be very affordable, so make sure to have them escort you when hiking the trails. Lastly, do not leave valuables unattended at any point and always walk with a friend at night.
